Chamberlain has always had a fascination with nature and the landscape. When Chamberlain was growing up, his family never traveled to the western US. He longed to see the mountains and the western landscape.
After two years of college at Purdue University, majoring in Physics, Chamberlain decided that it was time for a change in his life. In 1988, he moved to Tucson, Arizona. A month later, he moved to Phoenix. Although, he had been interested in photography since the age of 9, this was when his interest began to grow. Chamberlain traveled all over the state taking pictures. In 1991, he moved to southern California. It was in 1996 when he began to seriously consider photography as a way to make a living. Chamberlain had his first picture published on a postcard. It was a picture of the Hollywood Sign. Since then, he has had more pictures published and has sold many photographs to individuals for display in their homes and offices.
"My goal is to capture unusual images. I try to capture that unbelievable sunset, sunrise or the landscape in unbelievable conditions. This is why there may be long periods when there are no new images posted to this website. I am depending on the weather to produce something dramatic. It's all about placing myself in the right place at the right time. There is much research and planning that I do with the use of weather satellites images and live webcams of locations before going out on a shoot. The real work is in the planning so that I can be at a location when the conditions are right for something spectacular to happen. Unfortunately, more than half the time, it doesn't happen. Many times, I have driven hours round trip to the beaches, mountains, or desert, and never even take my camera out. That's the challenge of the type of photography that I do.
Post-processing work is limited to slight color and exposure adjustments which has always been "the second half" of photography. I use limited amounts of post-processing to bring the image closer to what I saw with my own eyes."
Current camera and lens most used: Canon 5D, 17-40L lens
Some images shot with Mamiya 645 Pro.
